If you’re hosting a Christmas gathering or two, chances are you’ll be in the kitchen doing some cooking. And as tempting as it might be to make cleanup easier by draining grease down your drain or dumping leftovers into the rubbish disposal, you’re better off using your trusty kitchen bin.
Cooking grease from turkey, ham, and other Christmas meats can cause a serious clog in your drain. Before you know it, you’ll be dealing with an emergency. - Insulate water tanks and lag pipes (lagging material is available from most DIY stores). Make sure there are no gaps at bends, valves or fittings.
- Find your property’s internal stopcock or valve and make sure you can turn it off if necessary. Most stopcocks are fitted under the kitchen sink and close by turning clockwise.
- Check your boiler has been serviced.
Be Proactive
